"Mushroom" is an app that helps individuals find personalized accommodations, recreational areas, and more by adding specific criteria to the search, making it a trip that everyone can enjoy together.

The problem

When planning a trip, it can be incredibly challenging to find a destination that ensures a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all travelers, even if they are unsure of where to go. Small details that may seem insignificant to able-bodied individuals can become significant obstacles for children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Unfortunately, existing hotel booking sites and travel-related platforms lack access to many of these specific details. Consequently, it is only natural that travelers are unable to decide on a travel destination and, as a result, find suitable accommodations and nearby attractions. Wouldn't it be great if we could provide perfect accommodations not only for those who are uncertain about their travel destination but also for everyone traveling together?

Problem statement

Mushroom will be designed to help families while traveling by providing them with informational access to their specific accommodations. We have observed that navigation apps or online informational websites for businesses don’t offer easy access to simple information such as kid-friendliness, food allergy menus, accurate location hours/updates, sanitation, and recommended restroom stops along your route.

With the stress and overwhelming nature of traveling with groups, this tool allows navigation maps to sync and create a list of locations that meet your needs. This enables travelers to relax and spend less time researching and more time relaxing.

Design process

Mushroom chose a warm tone color palette that evokes a familial and cozy atmosphere. Initially, when conceptualizing the app, illustrations resembling the shape of a house or space were used to convey the idea of Mushroom. However, the direction shifted towards a more inclusive and warm image, prioritizing a sense of fun and approachability rather than a strictly cartoonish style.
